How much will it cost?

The costs of summer programs vary greatly. Many programs here and abroad cost no more than the cost of attending a summer camp for the same amount of time. Six weeks in Paris may be no more than 6 weeks in a summer camp in your home state. Remember that doing more of the same each summer may not be the best investment of your dollars. There are meaningful programs that can meet many financial considerations.

Is it advisable for friends to sign up for the same program?

There is nothing wrong with friends deciding to go to the same summer program. However, your choice of what to do should be based on your interests and talents, not on who is going on the program. Summer is a great time for meeting new people and taking on new challenges. Take advantage of unique opportunities rather than gathering all of your best friends and signing up for a program.

How long do most summer programs last?

You may attend a summer program for as little as one week or for as long as two months. If you have work or family plans for part of the summer, you can find a summer program that will accommodate these needs. There are also programs offered during Christmas and spring break.

Is it possible to talk with other students who have attended the program of choice?

How do summer experiences enhance my college application?

Admission officers look at more than test scores and high school grades. You will be asked to list all your summer experiences since your freshman year in high school. The admissions officers look at these listings along with your college essays to determine if you've looked for opportunities to develop your interests and broaden your horizons. Often meaningful summer experiences can act as a springboard for creative expression of your ideas and feelings on your college essay. Most of all, you want your application to stand out from the pack.

Isn't getting a real job just as important as attending a summer program?

Real work experience does enhance a college application. It shows initiative and a sense of responsibility. However, most jobs for high school students are not overly stimulating. It is possible to find time in a summer to work and to attend a summer program. Unless you get an unusual job, you will probably gain more leadership and maturity out of a high quality summer program than working all summer.

In addition to working with pre-college students, what does Educational Expeditions have to offer college students?

The study abroad office at your college should be the first place that you go for help in finding the right program for you. However, some advisors are so busy with the large number of students requesting information that they may not have enough time to cover all the options available to you. Also, some colleges focus on a select group of programs to the exclusion of others. You are often left to take care of all practical details on your own. When you are sure you have contacted all the knowledgeable advisors in your own college and you are still confused, come to Educational Expeditions for further assistance. We will try to match you with the year long, semester or summer program that suits your needs and desires.
